Being consistent is hard

It’s so easy to talk yourself out of doing the thing that makes your soul light up. I know I do it all the time.

What’s been working for me is what the champion of creatives, Amie McNee calls the two week reset.

Start any day you want and do the same thing every day for two weeks. You will miss some days because life is unpredictable. Just dust yourself down and carry on where you left off. As Amie says

“Screwing up doesn’t mean you’re a screw up.”

My current target is to write 30 new words a day on my WIP. Some days I do more, and some days none, but I’ve found I’ve more on days than off.

Choose one thing, whatever you want to do - write, draw, learn a new skill, meditate, exercise etc. Make your commitment small - i.e. 5/10 minutes consistently for two is better than 60 minutes every other week. Less is more, my friend. Now you’re all set to go.

At the end of the two weeks re-evaluate and reset. This doesn’t mean automatically upping your existing target. Taking the same approach again is fine. I’m on my second round of 30 new words a day. Remember, this is a practice of consistency, not a practice of self -sabotage

Amie McNee’s book is called ‘We Need Your Art’
