what to remember
In these workshops we’re going to spend our time making things up.
It doesn’t matter if you believe your writing is good or bad, nobody here cares.
No one is ‘best’ or ‘better’ this includes the workshop leader.
Everyone has a strong, unique, voice.
A writer is someone who writes, so you are a writer.
-
reading aloud
After finishing the writing prompts everyone will be invited to read their work aloud.
You don’t have to do this if it makes you feel uncomfortable.
We will all assume everything is fiction unless the writer tells us different.
-
be a good listener
Everyone is responsible for being a good listener.
When someone is reading their work we all listen.
When offering our responses we are invited to express what we liked about the writing, what stayed with us, or share a favourite phrase, word, or image. Or any other observations we choose
When we offer our comments we use the terms ‘Narrator’, ‘Speaker,’ or ‘Character,’ and not you when referring to the ‘voice’ on the page, protecting the privacy of the writer.
We never offer any criticism or correction.
