1. Its great to be an auntie. This revelation is largely due to the fact that the most beautiful child in the world is my niece. She is almost 5 months old now and ready to win the Nobel prize for physics – because she’s that smart – or any type of beauty contest – because she’s that beautiful – or an Olympic gold medal – because…you get the idea.
2. Don’t trust anyone named “Tiger” or “Deer Head” to watch your purse while you go to the restroom. I don’t think I need to elaborate on that one.
3. Change is not always bad. I don’t usually like change and there were a lot of changes this year. Some were bad and some actually turned out to be pretty good. (I’ve marked them so you can tell them apart.)
BAD: After 18 long years of living together (where he sent me to the emergency room three times), Spike finally met his maker (and I actually started to believe that he would never die). I no longer have to worry about being attacked when I come home at night or in my sleep or whenever I look him in the eye….. I miss him a lot.
GOOD: I changed jobs from the law firm I initially transferred to in order to work for the Arizona Attorney General’s office. I represent the Citizens Clean Elections Commission. No, I didn’t forget to put the apostrophe after the “n” in Citizens – that’s the way the Act reads. (I’m learning a lot in this state and I have health insurance.)
4. Make time for your friends. When you think that everything is wrong and no one could possibly love you again…..talk to a friend and tell them the whole dirty tale. You’d be surprised at how understanding and forgiving these people can be – and how much easier they are on you then you’ll ever be on yourself. Also, reach out to a few old ones now and again.
5. Don’t wear a U of Arizona t-shirt to the Tucson Pub Crawl. Locals don’t like it when you flaunt the fact that you’re a “learner.”
6. Any type of staged re-enactment of John Dillinger’s capture in Tucson will be just as bad as you think it will be. That is, if the smoke machines are operational.
7. There are more varieties of turquoise belt buckles and jewelry in existence than you can imagine. And some people in this State have to wear all varieties at once.
8. I am a good looking woman. I went to my 20th WP reunion and all of us ladies looked awesome! I would like to thank my parents …. and the Academy. It’s probably also due to my immaturity but I’m willing to overlook that and I’m not about to look a gift horse in the mouth.
9. It’s not necessarily bad to wake up early and do stomach crunches with a bunch of other people. After hating it so much for so many years the concept of enjoying it is totally new for me. I'm still on the fence and will have to let you know for sure next year.
10. I have a great life. I’m pretty damn fortunate because I have some really amazing people in my life. I don’t quite know how I got so lucky to have them in my life but I’m holding onto them. You poor victims of my many blabbering phone calls and e-mails are well aware who you are…..
