Day two on the beach. But no baby sea turtles that needed saving.
I sat on the beach and read and took dips in the warm water. The part of the island I'm on is facing the Atlantic ocean and the water is totally clear and a brilliant turquoise. Every once in a while a cloud will float by and drop a little rain on us and then go away to leave sunshine again. Its hot here but everyone tells me that it is intolerably hot here and very unusual. It seems alright to me.
The hotel is pretty old fashioned. I guess the main building was built in the late 1800s and there are several new buildings around it. I'm in one of the newer buildings and there is a little mini kitchen, a bathroom with a jacuzzi, shower and separate toilet room (so I don't disturb my imaginary boyfriend) and a really high four poster bed. I literally have to take a running jump to get onto the bed. Luckily I don't move around too much when I sleep because I would definitely have to go to the emergency room if I fell off. There is also a TV in the room with a lot of american stations on them. The stations, however, have spanish language commercials. I guess that's because I'm so close to South America. Its weird though because the shows are all in english (with no subtitles or anything).
My liberal friends should now avert their eyes: the tv also gets Foxnews -- so you know this place has got to be alright. :)
The food is alright. I'm not really into caribbean food and rum is not my favorite liquor so I couldn't say that the food is the stuff of my dreams (like a land of chocolate is). I can get a decent cup of coffee here in the morning and there is a new restaurant they just opened called "Zen" that serves thai and japanese food which is pretty good.
I'm going to take a walk on the "wild side" this afternoon and get a taxi to the big city, "Lawrence Gap." The capitol is Bridgetown but there is a place called "Holetown" which sounds like a "must see." When I'm done I'll have seen the "whole" town. There are no stores around here but I ordered some sodas and water for my room (which had a refrigerator in it too) so I'm covered there. I might pick up some snacks.
Well, I don't have much else to report other than I'm sweating up a storm here. Not too pretty.
